ACM Quest - 2009 : A Report

ACM Quest 2009 – Autumn Fest

Quest 09 was organised by ACM along with two big events Autofest and Entrumeet combined together as Autumnfest 09 which was held from 31st September to 2nd October 2009. ACM QUESTwas first conducted in 2008 with the sole motive of encouraging people to come together and take part in computing events. Quest 2008 constituted of interesting events like kriegspell , code2win, neocoders , e-trivia , online treasure hunt , lan chatting software n many other events which cover all the arenas and aspects of computation . Since Quest was held with two big events like Entrumeet and Autofest this year, the TEAM QUEST decided to come up with 3 major events that cater and attract people not only the experts but also those who are a novice to the computing field .

ACM Quest 2009 received a great participation. Not only did the undergraduates, but also the Post graduate students took keen interest in the events. The participation was overwhelming, more than our expectations. At places it was difficult to arrange space participants to sit. The zeal and vigour of participants was at its full display when participants agreed to sit on stairs and write the MCQ.

BYTECODE:-

ByteCode was the most popular computer event. It is basically a written quiz which tests the overall programming knowledge of the participants. It received participation of more than 100 odd students in teams of 2. The questions mainly focussed on logic and knowledge of C.

Winners:-

1. Amil George & Dhruv Bharadwaj – III yr : INR 4000

Code Athlon :-

This is an online coding event which tests the programming skills of all those people who are good and have knowledge of programming languages like c,c++ , java etc. The problems were very challenging and were graded in two categories. Problem statement can be found at www.svnit.edu.in/acm .

This event attracted 25 odd teams with 2 persons per team.

3rd Prize : Khushraj Madanani and Shamik Arora : INR 1000

1st yr Winner :Meet Vora : INR 1000

Artificial Intelligence Workshop and Chatbot Challenge

A chatbot is a conversational agent , a computer program to simulate an intelligent conversation with one or more users via auditory or textual methods. This event includes creation of such on site chatbots.

This event attracted a crowd of 40 people who used their innovative ideas and designed intelligent bots .

Winners:-

First Prize: Antim Suman : INR 4000
Second Prize:Chaitra Jagannath: INR 2500
Third Prize: Gaurav Mandal and Keyur Pandya :INR 1500

This year a special prize was given to the best performer of 1st year in each event in order to encourage and improvise the programming skills of the fresh batch. Moreover, this year events of Quest recorded maximum participation of 1stand 2nd yearites. Though the number of events conducted were lesser than the previous version , the participation for each event was fantabulous as mentioned above . The special event on Artificial Intelligence was held to give participants a basic idea of how computers are evolving and communicating with the humans .Quest 2009 was a great success and our team would like to thank the participants whose curiosity and enthusiasm added the icing on the cake.

Some regards to the Autofest 2009 and Entrumeet 2009 committee who lend their support and help whenever required and worked together with great spirit to make Autumnfest a big hit .

We would also like to thank our faculty advisors Mr R.P.Gohil and Mr.D.C.Jinwala for their guidance and support .Our success would not have been possible without proper guidance and vision.

Fruits vs Code Once Again....

Sorry guys this is not much of serious technical stuff..... u can call it as a technical bakar.... for leads to understand this post, please visit

P.S. : This post is written all in a jolly mood and as a continuation to face to face altercation... just providing a much global stand and enjoyment for all. :) . Please take it lite.

First of all sorry for not posting anything since long(though I know nobody gives a damn about it as most of my friends are busy chatting on gtalk coz of their own reasons). I have 100 possible excuses to give but to be very frank I didn't think much these days as i was on my quest for an "apple" orchard.

Anyways, coming to the point directly, just a few days back when I was preparing for exams with one of my friend, I had an altercation with him with the same old question creeping in "What is better, Fruits or Codes ?" and as usual I was with the former. There were hell lot of arguments given by both of us and we ended up without any final conclusion( just like big national talks lolz).

But as I always say technology with simplicity rocks!!!!!!! But my dearest friend was all interested in thefts from his orchards which (were definately not fruits). He argued on some fancy font-styles and their forgery, some GUI and its unauthorised replication. But its a well known fact that a car without a wheel is not a car and one cannot claim copyrights for circular tyres....lolz!!!

Orchards are transcending and theirs rivals are just wondering what to do. I would repeat the samething "To be into this software league one should have quiet a few algorithms implemented, which the orchard owners dont." Now it is obvious, who is an IT man and who is a businessman....

Anyways, let the world be the way it is. Its you who need to choose between quality & quantity. I choose technology....a perfect blend of both..... whether from orchards or softies or "hundred zeros".... At the end of the day its always the technology which survives.... :D

P.S. : This post is written all in a jolly mood and as a continuation to face to face altercation... just providing a much global stand and enjoyment for all. :) . Please take it lite.

CODIES 1.0

CODIES 1.0 : The Digital Roadies

}

Que: Write a condition such that output of this code snippet is "Hello World".

BING is KING !!!

"BING ???, not heard of 'BING' yet." Well 'Bing' is a new search engine by 'Microsoft'. It replaces Microsoft's 'Live' search engine and is more user-friendly than any existing search engine at present. It was code-named 'Kumo' during its development at Microsoft and it works on 'Silverlight'. You can try bing at :

www.bing.com

"Bing, It's just 'Yet Another Search Engine'."------ No way !!! if you are accessing bing from India you may think so for while. But, just change your country to 'United States' in the top right corner, and here comes the "Bada Bing Bada Boom". Just type something to search for.

On the results page, hover mouse on any of the results, you will see an 'orange' dot on your right. Take mouse to the dot, some text from the corresponding site pops up in a ballon. This is an exciting feature and saves lot of clicks in choosing the correct link among the results.

Now try an image search. The image results are all displayed on a single page. You can scroll through them and choose the best one. It will save a lot of time by avoiding switch over to next and previous pages. And you can scroll through thousands of images in just few secounds. Thus giving you the best results. You can optimise your search further by selecting various tags on left column of result page.

Video search is also awesome in bing. In the results page, hover your mouse over any of the result item and the video starts playing there itself. When you click a video, it plays on the bing page itself. It also allows you to move over to next/prev pages without interrupting the playing video. How else can video search be better than this !!!

This is not over yet. Bing is not just a 'Search Engine', its a 'Decision Engine'. It assists you in planning your travel, shopping, driving and even more. With its intelligence it can sort the user review into positive and negative, so now you dont need to read any of them. It finds for you what you are actually looking for like. So, try and decide with 'Bing' !!!

Keep Binging !!! :)

Welcome !!!

Hello Friends,

Welcome to my blog.

' TechnoPrax ' is primarily a technology blog. It basically addresses recent developments in the technology we use. New Software Releases and Upgrades are among the top concern here. It also serves as an 'Information Hub' for various competitions and programs taking place all around the world.

Apart from this, the blog also features a special section as " CODIES : The Digital Roadies ". It will include 'Find an Error', 'Generate the Output' and other such problems. The blog will also try to throw some light on the intricacies of C, the mother of all languages. Followers participation through comments and solutions is required for continuity of this section.

This blog will also offer information about the happenings in organisations and groups I am associated with, viz. SVNIT, ACM, MSP and SVNIT Tech Club. I look forward for your comments and suggestions for improvement of this blog.

Thank You and Happy Surfing. :)
